Hey all,

With the addition of Housing in the game coming this February Master Writs are also added to the game. The chance of this dropping will depend on your dedication as a crafter. Here is a note from the PTS forums from a dev regarding what affects it as it is currently on PTS:

"Tradeskill mastery (which determines your odds of receiving a master writ from a top tier writ reward box) is meant to imply a long-term dedication to the craft. This varies from tradeskill to tradeskill.

For Blacksmithing, Clothier, and Woodworking, this means motif knowledge and overall completion of trait research. This does not include Crown-exclusive motifs or motifs for the 9 base player races. It focuses on motifs that take some effort to learn – like Xivkyn, or Minotaur, or Celestial.

For Provisioning, this is instead your collection of known purple and gold recipes as they are a strong overall representation of dedication to craft.

With Enchanting, we instead look at the total overall rune word translations you’ve completed on that character.

And with Alchemy, we look at how many reagents from which you’ve completely learned all effects.

Over time, the contributing factors for this may expand as the associated tradeskill mechanics do."

So all that time learning recipes and motifs is finally going to pay off for the Master Crafters :d Get collecting today!!

Yey. Maybe need to start expanding my purple recipe knowledge again then. I gave up as other than aiming for a complete set there didn't seem a great point to it.

A chance for new event ideas for crafters. Also hunts for housing trophies. Maybe...

A bit of an update from one of the devs regarding furniture crafting :

"Most of the furnishing recipes are found out in the world, not from the Master Writ vendor exclusively (which has a very small number of top tier recipes). The vast majority of furnishing recipes (well over a thousand) are found in all sorts of containers throughout the world, and also from things like pickpocketing and murder, certain vendors, humanoid enemies, and some other sources in the game. Also, recipe sourcing is influenced by region so if you are in Eastmarch for example, then you will see more Nord style furniture items recipes, and if you are in Alik'r, you should see more Redguard stuff. You will still find other recipes, but the local culture's recipes will be more common."

A bit of an update to Master Writ requirements taken from the ESO forums :

James-Wayne wrote: »
This is still false, I have all research on all crafting and all motifs including Crown ones and ive gotten 2 master writs (worth 6 each) since launch with doing all crafting dailies every day.

Is this working as intended?
Yes, the Master Crafting Writs are working as intended but it sounds like what you've experienced is on the very low-end of the possible drop-rate range. If you keep with it, you should see the rates even out a bit over time. Even with an optimal chance of getting one based on your knowledge (research and known Motifs), Master Writ invitations are quite uncommon. That said, we recently discovered a bug that causes Provisioning Writs in particular to award Master Writs roughly half as often as intended. We are currently working on a fix, so you can expect these to appear a little more often once that fix is in.

Thank you for the article but it did not really clarify what we already knew in general about the chances to get Master Writs.
Is it blue, purple, and gold recipes that increases your chances or only purple and gold?
Does each Chapter of a motif increase your chances or only when a Motif is completed?
Does completing Achievements in general on the character increase your chances or only the crafting achievements?
Only Purple- and Gold-quality provisioning recipes and completed Motifs increase your chances of getting a Master Writ. Individual Motif Chapters do not increase your chances. Achievements are factored into Master Writ chances by way of learning associated Alchemy reagent traits and Enchantment glyph translations.

Slurg wrote: »
Does that include the new motifs that were just introduced with this patch?
Yes, Motifs that aren’t Crown Store-exclusive (including the ones added with Update 13) are factored into Motif knowledge for the chance to receive Master Writs, with the playable race cultural Motifs being the exception. You may be asked to craft items in the playable race cultural Motifs to complete a Master Writ, but they do not contribute to your chances of getting a Master Writ.

CREEP wrote: »
-How much knowledge of Motifs helps to increase the rate of getting Master Writs?
Completing all of your research and learning all the applicable Motifs is weighted very similarly.

CREEP wrote: »
-With the introduction of furnishing crafting schematics, does knowledge of these influence Master Writ chances as they are "craftable goods"?
This doesn’t factor in at the moment, but we’ll be evaluating it for future growth of the system.

Enodoc wrote: »
@ZOS_JessicaFolsom Is it intended that Writ Vouchers can't be banked?
Currently, yes. As the system is new, we’re constantly evaluating decisions such as this and taking player feedback into consideration. This may change in the future, or it may remain as-is.

Another bit of info :

"Your chance to get Master Writs will not go down when new Motifs are added to the game; your chance will only go up in small increments as you get more."

Was there any information about whether or not passives invested in the craft trees help in any way, except obviously getting top tier writs?

So far it seems like the way to get the best chance for master writs is:

Get top tier writs
Learn complete styles, triggering the associated achievement. Followup question: The old rare motifs Daedric, Ancient Elf, Primal and Barbaric have a group achievement together with Imperial. Any info on if this group achievement counts for anything? I assume the styles individually do.
Translate all runes (and get their associated achievements, don't forget Hakeijo!)
Learn all alchemy traits, including poison ones.
Research all gear traits

... and that's it? That's all we can do?
